Send and Receive Files on iPhone / iPad via Bluetooth with Celeste 2

The newly introduced Airdrop on iOS 7 may be a worthy reason to update but most people using jailbroken devices would rather stick to iOS 6.x. For some, another reason to update may be the more polished user interface but like some users would say, iOS 7 is only a Cydia theme. Although Airdrop lets you share certain things between Apple devices, you’re still limited in some ways as you can only send to and receive from Apple devices running iOS 7. You have a friend using an Android phone, this guy has a cool song on his phone but you just can’t have it because the bluetooth feature on your iPhone doesn’t let you do such.

Bluetooth sharing may be slow compared to Airdrop and what NFC lets you do on Android devices but still, it’s a needed feature on a smartphone. As a matter of fact, bluetooth sharing may become obsolete (just like infra-red) in a few years, but it’s still something worth having because it enables file sharing across multiple platforms.

Introducing Celeste 2

Celeste has always been available in Cydia and it’s quite popular but there were know bugs known with the first version of this Cydia app that enables your iPhone / iPad / iPod Touch to send and receive files. The new version, Celeste 2, is indeed a reason to love your jailbroken device even more.

It’s quite expensive at $9.99 but I used this app and I must admit it works great on my device. It’s tested on a jailbroken iPhone 4s running iOS 6.0 and also an iPhone 3Gs running iOS 6.1.3.

The “Import with Gremlin” feature ensures your received files are placed where they should be. For example, a sent mp3 song should be imported into your music library and when connected to iTunes on your computer, you should see it displayed under purchases.

Requirements

You need a jailbroken device runing iOS 6.0 and above to use this application. It’s available in the BigBoss repository for $9.99. There isn’t much configuration needed after installation although you may need to set to app to “Import with Gremlin” which is all you have to do.
